In a decision adopted in 2019, the Commission found that Greece had granted unlawful and incompatible state aid to agricultural and forestry undertakings left damaged by the 2007 fires.
In two separate actions, the Greek authorities and a beneficiary of those aid measures lodged actions for annulment of this decision at the General Court. In the judgments of 19 October 2022 in Case T-850/19 Greece v Commission and Case T-347/20 Sogia Ellas v Commission, the General Court has upheld the Commission’s decision. As regards recovery of the aid, the Court has confirmed in both cases that the Commission can interrupt the ten-year limitation period by sending requests for information to Member States.
